In order to strengthen its action and fulfil its public service mission, OPART promotes collaboration with companies or institutions through partnership, patronage or sponsorship.
We believe that the synergies arising from these connections provide a fundamental contribution to our work and help enhance its socio-economic impact.
The development of partnerships with various cultural, educational, and governmental institutions for the implementation of long-term joint projects is one of OPART's strategic goals.
The partnerships established are a key to deepening the dialogue with the territories and fulfilling our mission of public service, by strengthening cooperation and implementing partnerships with national entities that allow the actions of the entire OPART universe to tour.
The Recovery and Resilience Plan is an initiative of the European Union aimed at mitigating the economic and social impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic and promoting the economic and social recovery of its Member States.
In Portugal, the Recovery and Resilience Plan spans multiple sectors, including Culture. OPART as a key entity in the cultural sector, is a beneficiary of this investment under RE-C04-i02 - Cultural Heritage, as part of measure C04-i02-m02 - Requalification and Modernisation of National Theatres, specifically Camões Theater and São Carlos National Theatre, and measure C04-i01-m01 - Cultural Networks and Digital Transition for the modernisation of the cultural network and equipment. The total investment amounts to EUR 38 660 723.59.
Cultural patronage represents the contribution of civil society to a more culturally developed country and a stronger democracy. It consists of donations made by individuals or companies to public or private entities that carry out activities of recognised artistic and cultural value. The State supports and co-finances this practice by waiving part of its tax revenue by granting tax advantages to patrons.
In the contemporary world, patrons play a key role in contributing to culturally more developed societies and fostering the unity of the communities in which they operate. Through their support, they can create a unique social impact.
For artistic and cultural projects that receive patronage, the advantages include diversification of funding sources and financial sustainability, as well as access to new dissemination platforms and the broadening of audiences.
In 2021, new rules governing Cultural Patronage were approved. Private for-profit entities are now eligible to receive donations. Therefore, companies involved in organising festivals or cultural events, galleries, publishing houses, and private entities that own or manage cultural heritage, among many other businesses in the sector, can now apply for recognition of the cultural interest of their activities and become eligible to receive donations under the Cultural Patronage scheme, meaning their patrons will benefit from the tax incentives provided by law.
Finally, it has become easier for individuals and companies interested in becoming cultural patrons to identify artistic and cultural projects eligible for patronage, whether at a national level or across different regions of the country.
